SS250's Inspirations: First Edition

Okay, folks.  The number one question I get from people outside of "When is so-and-so story coming out?" (The answer is always when it's done, and not a minute before...), or "Can I have my character in your story?" (No, unless you win my Sonic Hypno-Contest)...   The number one question is: "What gives you inspiration for your stories?  How do you come up with your ideas?"

The answer is both simple and complex.  The simple answer is: "Pop culture."  The complex answer is: "A TON of places.  Let me talk about 'em."  I'm starting this new journal series called SS250's Inspirations to talk about the TV Shows, comics, video games, movies, music, and more that have inspired me to write my stories.   This first edition is going to be a short one, because not much needs to be said about it in general, but later ones will be significantly more in depth. ^_^

The first topic is...  Sonic the Hedgehog.  My name is Supersonic250 for a reason.  I chose it on purpose.  Sonic is one of my biggest inspirations, and since my biggest ongoing series is my SS250 Sonicverse, it's a good place to start.

I shouldn't really need to give a recap to what Sonic is about honestly, so I won't.  Instead, I'll talk about what I like about the series and why it inspires me.  First, I first got into Sonic through the comics.  I saw a comic issue in a 7-11 shop, and thought it looked cool... then when I got my tonsils out, my parents bought me my first issue... and I was addicted.  I got into the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (which I still love, because literally every other episode had hypnosis in it! X3), then slowly got into Sonic SatAM.  I had played every game in the series until Sonic Heroes (which was the beginning of Sonic's downfall), and read every issue of the comic until issue 100...  When instead of the promised marriage proposal between Sonic and Sally, we got an issue where literally nothing monumental happened.  I stayed with the series for a while, but then stopped reading... and eventually stopped even caring when I learned Sonic and Sally had broken up.

Despite this, I'm still a die-hard fan of the series.  I love the mythology.  I love the history.  I love the GAMES (up to a certain point...  The last GOOD game was Sonic Chronicles, the RPG, and the last good console game was Sonic Adventure 2).  It HURTS me to see the direction the series has gone, and some of the boneheaded moves that they've made (Mina Mongoose, roboticizing Princess Sally... GRRRRRR!!! ><:;;;).  But I'll always consider myself a die-hard fan and I look forward to the day they FIX it.

I find Sonic has a rich mythology, with interesting and likable characters, strong and interesting plots, and potential for great storytelling.  As such, it has been a great inspiration, and a HUGE influence for me, and I'll keep using it for as long as I keep writing. ;3

In the next edition of SS250's Inspirations, I'll talk about something a little more obscure and interesting... >;3

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinteresting... Well I found it so anyway! It's nice to find out more about your motivations and such.
I quite agree with your statement about the games (except I tuned out after Sonic R, simply because I got fed up of Sega switching consoles every other year [read: expensive!]). I enjoyed the cartoons (even Sonic Underground - no, don't look at me like that!). I could never get into the comics though, simply because they didn't seem to exist in any shops in my locality.
And Sonic made me furry. Simple.
