Since this is IB and I still feel the need to make silly long lists, I have decided to bump off the hate list with a bit of cuteness. I think many of the cartoons we watch have some really interesting cubs. Not just to be cute sugar fodder, but also buckets of personality. Many of them have made it into the fandom, and many have yet to find a spot in the /34/ halls of fame. Though i intend to change that hehehe. Now i should quickly describe what falls under my definition of cub.... thats easy If you're middle school or younger, you're a cub. So here we go with
Top 13 cubs that stuck in my mind (those poor souls)!
13- Kathy Throgmorton (Talespin)- With a show appearance of a max of 8 minutes, you wouldn’t think she would get much notice. But if you recall, this sweet little brat got Baloo fired TWICE. She doesn’t come off as a brat. She just has the same Alphabet obsession as her grandpa (or uncle. I can’t really remember). She would have been a fun character to see a second time. Maybe as a friend/crush for Kit.
12-Baby Shady (MLP Gen1)- She was all about the negative, just like her mother. X9 Awesome.
11-Pinky (The Noozles)- Magical koala girl. What else is there to say? She tried to be a know it all, and it just winds up causing more shenanigans.
10- Marcia Marsupial Mouse (Blinky Bill)- Tough girls can wear pink. Because they never released these shows in order, I don’t know if she actually developed character wise. I do recall that she was the type that loved a good scrap, and that was ok by me.
9-Doofus (Ducktales)- The chunky career sidekick. The Go-fer for the nephews, and fan boy to Launchpad. I always had a soft spot for him. Sure he was a wuss in many ways and a perpetual clutz, in others, but in many episodes it shows he is quite capable in spite of all the naysaying from the main cast. Add to that the fact that his future self marries a very hawt Webby and you have all the makings of a great character.
8-Max (Capitol Critters)- He lost his family due to poison gas, and moved to the White House with a very odd crew of screwballs. He has a very mature head on his shoulders, but you still see him having a few wide eyed kid moments. My personal favs involved him finding girlfriends. His Japanese girl was a sweet moment. He had to choose between the family he had, and the one he could have had. It shows that emotionally he is still growing. The second involved him falling into a hamster cage and getting mixed up in an orgy. Lucky rodent bastard.
7- Portia Porcupine (Get Along Gang)- The diminutive member of the group and favorite target for Bingo (I bet he had a little crush). Portia was a little fire cracker. Several episodes show her display incredible bursts of strength and a photographic memory. She hated to be ignored, and tended to do everything in a big way.
6-Pistol Pete (Goof Troop)- Molly Cunningham with ADHD. She gets to be a tad bothersome, but you gotta love her over all presence. She is a demanding brat, but is still sweet enough not to make it onto my "kick their ass" list.
5-Abigail Mouse (OUaF)- The leader of the crew. She is a young mouse that loves adventure. And she shows a nice spectrum of emotion. She is caring, but still thinks highly of herself. She eats a good amount of humble pie at times, but she is definately the glue that kept that band going to the new meadow.
4-Gosalyn Waddlemire Mallard (Darkwing Duck)- I love girls with bite, and the only thing that proves she is a girl is the occasional scenes with her in a dress. Full of spirit, and an energetic walking disaster, she proves on many occasions that dispite her youth, she is a capable crime fighter.
3-Cubbi Gummi (Gummi Bears)- Many cartoons leave their kids as kids. Few will like to show character development from one so young. Cubbi was a refreshing change of pace. He starts off as just another adventure and fun seeker, but develops a noble personality. He takes what he learns from the older gummis (living and dead) and grows as a character.
2-Mattimeo of redwall (Redwall Season 2)- Sure he is considered the Abbey brat in the book, but he never came off that way with me, even in the book. I figured he was more raging against the machine. Everyone expected him to take over as the warrior of Redwall, and that’s a lot of pressure. He wanted the job, but on his own terms. He learned that a warrior wasn’t just a fighter, but a defender. He stepped up to keep the other captives safe.
1- Molly Cunningham (Talespin)- "Cute to boot" is an understatement with this kid. In her first appearence, she is not only adorable and instantly likeable, she hitchhikes on a plane. Blackmails Kit and Baloo. Uses her cute to get all three out of trouble with Becky and doesn't even get a spanking. I think i fell in love with her during the Covington episode. She hates the con man that is putting the moves on her mom, and plays some very nasty tricks. It’s a nice broad display of personality instead of typical "I'm cute when I'm mad."
