RANT: Politically Correctness and censorhip going too far

by
This journal is going to offend people, I guarantee it.

I mean it. My partner and I just got done watching The Walton's earlier and now thanks to that show, I can honestly say that I am ashamed to be an American. Why you ask? Be cause the network was censoring out one word, ONE FUCKING WORD MIND YOU, one word that when edited out took away any and all context from the story line. What was the word that was edited and censored? The word NIGGER!!! Yes I said it, NIGGER!!!! I am beyond pissed that so much rage is spent on one little, insignificant, worthless, nothing word. That's all it is a word, nothing else.

Recently on The View Barbra Walters was given heat for saying nigger on the show while one of the two black ladies (not Whoopi) was cheered and praised for saying nigger. You know I am all for treating everyone fairly, but this is aimed at all the black members out there. STOP HIDING BEHIND YOUR ETHNIC AND RACIAL HISTORY! STOP CLAIMING RACIAL DISCRIMINATION! STOP OPPRESSING YOURSELVES!

Even Bill Cosby is ashamed of his people because about 75% of the black population does nothing about their situation but sit on their asses. You want respect? Then go earn it! You want to get a better job, earn it, don't sit on your ass and expect to get promoted because of your skin color (that's what is wrong right now). Hell learn from the women today, they didn't get where they are right now bitching and complaining about how they are mistreated, they are out there right now showing men that they can do anything a man can do and better.

All that most of the black community is doing is letting the social media, Hollywood, news, etc tell them how they are to behave, where they are supposed to work, where they are to live, what they are to drive, etc. So you want to treated with respect? Then stop hiding the word nigger, hiding the word only gives it power. I am getting tired of being with some of my closest friends (most of whom are black), and having to worry that I may offend someone around us because I call one of my friends nigger. We need to make this stop now. Hells even the gay community took power from the word gay, do we get offended because some white boy next to us say the word gay? HELL NO!!!

WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!! IF YOU THINK THAT THE WORD NIGGER IS PURE EVIL, JUST WAIT. ONE DAY THERE WILL ANOTHER RACIAL SLUR FOR BLACKS THAT WILL MAKE NIGGER PALE BY COMPARISON.

Lenny Bruce famously said that if the word nigger is used time and again, it loses its power. One of his famous skits goes like this:

Are there any niggers here tonight? What did he say? "Are there any niggers here tonight?" Jesus Christ, do you have to get that low for laughs? Have I ever told you about the schwartzer? Or spoke about the moulin john's? Are there any niggers? I know that one nigger that works here I see him back there. Oh there's two niggers, customers. Ah but between those two niggers there's one kike. Thank god for the kike. And two kikes. That's two kikes and three niggers and one spic. One spic, three spics and one mick. One mick one spic one hick, thick, funky, spunky boogie. And there's another kike. Three kikes, three kikes one ginny, one greaseball three greaseballs, two ginny's. One hunky funky lace-curtain Irish mick. Five more niggers. I pass with seven niggers, six spics, five micks, four kikes, three guineas, and one wop. Well, I was just trying to make a point and that is that it's the suppression of the word that gives it the power, the violence, the viciousness. Dig. If President Kennedy would just go on television, and say, "I would like to introduce you to all the niggers in my cabinet," and if he'd just say "nigger nigger nigger nigger nigger" to every nigger he saw, "boogie boogie boogie boogie boogie," "nigger nigger nigger nigger nigger" 'til nigger didn't mean anything any more, then you could never make some 6 year old black kid cry because somebody called him a nigger at school.

"Nigger" as long as I don't say it in any demeaning way it shouldn't be censored.

It's funny that i'd extend that advice and sentiment to many groups of people not just African Americans.

There are countless groups that complain rather than act when they have a problem.

Worse yet are the many groups that complain to their critics rather than work on a real problem the critic was talking about.  For example the ones you identified above, if someone says "that's racist" as a excuse to not have to fix the underlying problems then the fault is with them not you.

I'd be here all day if I started listing all the ethnicities, religions, political groups and others that do similar passing of the buck.

i'm shamed that i have used that word a few times in the past but i'd never come out and say it again,i hold nothing against any color and am no better or no more less a person for being white.my aunt married a black man and he's my uncle no matter what now and i let folks know he's my uncle without shame.

Yeah... censorship is kind of annoying.  Any kind of censorship.

Aah yes, the term most people are afraid to use around others when they aren't in public. Even moreso, a term that America is trying to play off that it never existed. Sad, because it's a part of not just my (a black male) history, but the history of this country. It's been seen through the worst of times and is leading toward a etter, but either way, is sitll a symbol of the past. It's unfortunate, though, at the attempt of censorship. Well, not attempt but the actual usage of it. I have no idea why this country is trying to hard to erase that kind of stuff, and is disappointing.

And truthfully it's not even freakin' offensive. Again, I'm black, and so long as I know the phrase isn't used in a derogatory way, then I really don't care. And in used in the context of a movie, then it really doesn't matter. It's just part of a dang movie. But...well, sometimes its the things that aren't there is what shows us what our country is like.

I will be the first to admit that I am not perfect, and I may have offended you or others. But my journal was meant to start up conversations. Nothing else. I have always prided myself in voicing my opinions, and am willing to pay the price for them afterwards.

I know that the word is offensive, but when people go and start removing the word from any form of media that is using it legitimately to stir feelings like in The Walton's, Tom Sawyer, Uncle Tom's Cabin, Gone With the Wind and Little House on the Prairie to name a few (I know that there are more works out there), then those works lose all context in the storylines. All that is being done right now when editing out that word, is hoping that a horrific part of our country's history disappears. And once something disappears from the history books, then that period in history is ripe to resurface again. That is what I am ranting about, the very real possibility that a part of our sordid history will return, with a vengeance.

Well, I'm sure not offended in the least about it. There are two things I find stupid. The serious need to use the word nigger, and the fact people are STILL offended by it regardless of context. I actually applaud you for saying what you said, you've gained like 20 more respect points. And that's a lot because you have definitely had a LOT of my respect before. The word is there and it's in our history. They shouldn't try to pretend its not there. It is, simple as that.

I agree. I just fear that once we start hiding our sordid history, those events will reoccur again in the future

I know. I even tried to reply to Neo Prodigy's journal about mine, I discovered that he actually blocked me.

This id the reply I was going to tell him...

You know what is more racist then the word nigger?
Only black people being allowed to say it.

One race has total control over the use of a word, and that's ok. that is somehow less racist then any other race being allowed to say it? That sounds like the bizarro world version of events.

Especially when rude black people have no problem using racial terms for white people. Of course, when someone brings that up a racist person will usually play the slavery card. (Never mind the fact I've never owned any slaves, and if we're going by history, Egyptians (aka Africans) enslaved Jews before Americans enslaved Africans.)

It may seem like we're the only race that does it. But in truth, it just seems to be more outfront when black folks do it. But in truth, since I hang around with all types, it's just as prominent with just about every race that I hang out with, whether its' against blacks, mexicans or anybody else. Hell, I have a friend of mine (white) who saw pics of little me and she said "Aww, you were such a cute little niglet!" And me and my mom found that funny as hell.

Off topic. Anyways, It IS stupid that a word would be exclusive to a single race. There's no way that's acceptable and in truth, it isn't because a word is a word, and there's nothing anyone can do about someone else saying it. People really just need to learn to grow thicker skin and just deal with it. That's the world we live in.

That's true, every race plays the race card (even white people (though it doesn't work for us unless we're in Alabama or some other bible belt state, lol))

You may have heard that some sickening excuse for a publisher is releasing an edition of Twain's Huckleberry Finn where the word "nigger" is replaced by the word "slave." All for the sake of "political correctness." Shall we soon see The Last of the Particular Tribal Native American? Or the book about a white man who, through chemicals and deep tanning, lived a year as a black man, and his book will be retitled Person of Color Like Me?

Okay, homework assignment, everyone: Let's come up with pejoratives, based upon race/species, for our furry community. There are people out there who think "furry" is a perversion in and of itself; one day, "furry" may have the same reputation as "nigger" or "kike" (Jew/Israeli) or "mick" (Irish) or even "Hispanic" -- which is a word that is insulting because of its origins in the Reagan Administration, used to dilute the numbers among Mexican, Puerto Rican, Spanish, and other such offshoots. (Use "Latino/Latina" instead. My mother, whose father's father was a full-blooded Spanish Jew from Cordova, hated "Hispanic" with a passion.)

WTF, guys... words are words, and intentions are everything. Screw it... I'm gonna go watch Blazing Saddles ... any of you other niggers wanna join me?!?! (Hey, I'm a black wolf ... go figure!) ^____^
