Update for the Pathfinder Players

Sorry for the delay in replies. I had a busy weekend.

Players so far:
DraculJOSHI
DraculJOSHI
PlatinumPen
PlatinumPen
Kurty
Kurty
tiler
I would like to keep it at 4 players for now. It is a large group already and I don't know how it works out over the net. Especially coordination gets more and more complicated.

1) The characters: We have chatted about them and most have an idea where they wanna go. Some of you probably want to keep a digital character sheet. That is okay with me, but I can't help you with those. I only use paper ones. During the first stream I will show you how the stats/skills work and fill out a sheet.
I will use this one ==> CharSheet
So best is I'd guess, if you don't know how to fill out, do it with me on paper first and then transfer it to the digital one (if you want to use one).

2) The setting: The majority would like no steampunk and prefer a mediveal setting. So I will give it the usual medieval/high fantasy/high magic Pathfinder setting, but with my personal ideas to distinguish it from other stuff you may know.
Magical constructs like Golems will exist though (I don't consider them steam punk... but they will be rare). And firearms might be existing somewhere, but they much likely will not appear in the campain.

3) Magical Items: There will be no Magic Item Wallmart where you can just buy all the magic gear you want/need (Basic stuff of course yes... but stronger more spezialised stuff not). But it is possible to get almost anything. You might just have to do something to earn it. Makes the item feel more rewarding too. Also you can be creative in making them yourself. I handle crafting and enchanting items far less strict then the standard system (that is one of my few houserules).

4) Statistics: I would offer you two possiblities how to make your character. Point buy (you buy the stats to fit your need) or a fixed set of values you can distribute. The latter will much likely have more general power but might not fit everyone's taste, while the first one is more flexible but a bit weaker. To keep it fair everyone should use the same method. So please tell me what you prefer.
EDIT: I decided on POINT BUY. Allows more flexibility on creation.
For those interested. 80 points to spend. Values up to 14 cost 1 point each. 15 + 16 cost 2 points. 17 + 18 cost 3 points. Don't worry if you don't know what that means I will explain when we make the characters.
10-11 is an average score. Your no-name commoner has 10-11 in each stat. 12-13 is above average. 14-15 is pretty good. 16-17 is very good. 18 is almost super human already. For example: A human with 18 Strength can carry up to 100 pounds of stuff with him, without it impacting any of his abilities. 18 Intelligence is considered already Genius level intellect.

5) Would you like the stream to be public or private?

6) TIME: I have made a table comparing the times and it seems like Saturday evening is our day. Due to the timezones it should look like this:
For me and Joshi it would be around 20:00 to 20:30 pm.
For Kurty and fscribe around 13:00 to 13:30 pm
And for tiler around 13:30 to 14:00 pm
End is open to you.

I will try to make a session this saturday around these times (I dunno if this Sa is free for me yet). With the inkbunny anouncement system everyone should get the exact time ;3
Don't worry if you come too late to the first stream. It will be mostly explaining the system and making/finishing the characters. Then we will also see if I calculated the times right.

Also if we have exchanged Skype names I might text you and ask stuff... or you can do the same :3

Depending on the power you want for the campaign (and against those monsters in Pathfinder, the players need the help x.x) I like using a point-for-point 90 point buy system. Evenly distributed that would be a 15 in all stats. No stat under 8 or over 18 prior to racial mods.  Also I've always enjoyed the 13-18, assign as you will system.

Be a black blade magus, do it!

Also, Clerics of Death, very nice :D Go with Pharasma, choose to channel positive and then at 8th level become healed by negative energy as well? Sounds like an undead slayer to me :3

On a side note, Ninja. Not really a ninja, more like a Ki Technician.

90 points on 1 on 1 is overly powerful. You don't need that. Standard Paizo adventures assume 25 point buy (starting from 8, giving you 72 points), with scaling on higher scores.
The high power games have 86 point buy with scaling. So your method is over, over the top.

I never had problems with monsters in my games so far.

well I meant starting from zero :3

Yes I know. And as I said. 25 point buy would come to 72 points in your system.

XD I gotta let you know. My friends that DM/GM/Storytell for me don't let me roll stats anymore. Last time I rolled (and what finally made them angry) is rolling 18 18 18 17 17 17 in a low powered game X3 They asked me to roll again and it was 18 17 18 17 18 17

They think i'm cursed :3 I think I'm blessed.

A friend of mine rolled such stats too. I personally find that boring. If you have no weaknesses the character is stale. Flaws are what makes you interesing
Thanatos

I agree! I love all kinds of flaws :D

But importantly, If i had high stats, i tried to allow the Swords and Sorcery tragic flaws for high stats.

Like if you haev over a 19 con, you might not even notice the drink was poisoned so you tell you friends it's safe to drink :o
A charisma so high people instantly fall in love with you...to the extent they will kill, steal, abduct yada yada

an Int so high it's hard for you to be understood by those of lesser intellect XD too many big words. -10 on all charisma based skills involving interactions with others that require verbal contact.
SenGrisane

I still say no to those high stats.
DraculJOSHI

I have to include that into my game XD

I have this bad ass character concept bouncing around in my head but hes to bad ass XD I should get off my but and DM a campaign and make him into the bad guy XD

I would racer play him as a PC but how do you play a brooding, scythe Wielding Elf Gish with an extreme distaste for humanity as a hero? XD
SenGrisane
7 years, 2 months ago
If there is only furries then there are no humans to hate :P

All characters become very powerful at high levels.
KevinSnowpaw
7 years, 2 months ago
good point XD the closit class i can get for him to work is Duskblade the truest would be gestalt fighter/sorcerer but that's entirely inappropriate for normal campaigns gestalt characters use verient class rules XD i'll find a way to use him someplace eventually im sure.
SenGrisane
7 years, 2 months ago
There are possibbilities. You could play gestalt but only gain 75% of the exp. Thus you progress slower evening out the difference.
KevinSnowpaw
7 years, 2 months ago
thats true honestly the essayist way ro do it is to just roll a duskblade I think I try to avoid level adjustments that cant be burned off eventualy and other large exp draw backs becouse they tend to majorly gimp you in the long run or the abilitys your takeing the penilty for are only powerfull at low levels like Drow for example XD
SenGrisane
7 years, 2 months ago
Too bad duskblade is a D&D class and not in Pathfinder ;3
KevinSnowpaw
7 years, 2 months ago
actually it's D20 system and entirely compatible with pathfinder XD the only tweak is there arcane atunment class feature (allow them to use a handful of 0  level spells at will so meny times per day) is useless in pathfinder as all classes can use 0 level spells to there hearts content if they have the. granted the Duskblade only has FOUR XD but there there. only one can be channeled into there weapon and touch of fatigue is hardly op XD i'll draw up the charicter some time and hold on to him maybe i scare a game i can use him in.
SenGrisane
7 years, 2 months ago
Yes, it is compatible to a degree. I have played both D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder. I have even played the class from the book the Duskblade is from (I think I played a Sword Sage). But that book is not open gaming content and thus I can't offer it to my players, since I don't have the books. All the stuff I use can be found on the net and legally be used.

I have two D&D board games, so maybe we could "borrow" the one or other campaign every now and then, or we could even actually play it over online communication at one point or the other. (in a year or so...)
SenGrisane

What do you mean with board game?
DraculJOSHI

http://blog.gamesparadise.com.au/dungeoncrawling/

this one, and it has many more maps, gm booklet, story arc, hero figures etc.
not the most nerdy version of the game, but I like pretty eye candy XP

I found out that a grid just distracts from the fantasy. I play without a grid.
DraculJOSHI
7 years, 2 months ago
huh? without a grid? that works?
I didn't know that those can be played without a grid, each game depiction I have seen so far had one. (even the very old D&D one)
I don't know about D&D online thought... I think it works, I just don't know how, looking forward to it anyway ^^

It is simple. I draw a rough map and make a circle to show you where you are. Then you tell me where you wanna go. Everything will be estimated. This way you don't get situations that you miss somebody just because one edge of a cone did not fit exctly (cause you can't place it in 1° increments) and such.
You really have to imagine the battle field and your situation. See it through the characters eyes and then say "I do that".

I have played like this and with a map and I simply noticed that with a map you start thinking like in a 2D chessgame and less like your character. People forget they can climb up walls and jump down from above and much more stuff. Basically I am used to play in cinematic RPs. Play like this is an action movie. Pathfinder is over the top and silly if you look at it... like a hollywood film.
Meaning I use the "Rule of cool" and the "Rule of Funny". If it's cool or funny I'll allow it and bend the rules a bit if necessary.

Example1:
You are at the stairs and your friend battles an enemy.
With Battle grid:
I move 4 spaces and go in flanking postion and do a sneak attack.

Without grid:
Is there a chandelier in the room? - GM: Yes
I jump the the chandelier, swing over to the bad guy and drop on him from above.

Rule of Cool: I will allow the 2nd (asking for an acrobatics check of course) even when the movement is a bit too short to pull it off. Of course if you have to run up two levels and then wanna do it I won't allow it. But little nudges are okay.

Example2:
Ogres approach a farm.
With Battle grid:
I hide till they are here. Then use my underfoot combat feat and move into the ogre's space and attack them. This way he and the other orges get and attack penalty.
Hack and Slasing follows.

Without grid:
I raid the farmhouse for every rake I can find. I then spread them out and camouflage them. On the end I put some needles that I dip in itching powder. Now the Ogres step on the rakes and hit themselves with the powder. While the are scratching themselves I finish them off.

Rule of Funny. I might not have planned on so many rakes to be found, but for this there will be enough.

I think you get the picture. Bascially I want you all to forget the underlying game system and just imagine what you wanna do and I will tell you what I need from you to make it happen.

What timezone are you in (so I can be ready at the right time)
Thinking about  B or D which ever is best for your world (reread the PM if you forgot)

I will make an anouncement giving you the right time.
Also I recalculated for your time already.
I am in Central Europe... so +2 hours i think because daylight saving time.

Also. Can we make it D? While I like warforged, this way we would have an almost all furry group ^^
PlatinumPen
7 years, 2 months ago
Very well D it is just know the difference in personalities of the transformations are - well - stark. I'm going to go download skype now and look over pathfinder (I would like that link again if you could be so kind).
SenGrisane
7 years, 2 months ago
If you can RP it and don't kill everything on sight when you transform it's okay. Also send me the race you wanna use. I have to check how strong it is.

Don't worry he may get mean and vicious (think Orc barbarian) but his FAFIR (Friend And Foe Identification Radar) still works so no friendly fire. Also downloaded skype and will get to those links soon.

"almost all furry group"

Am I ment with that?
SenGrisane

Pretty much. But I meant more living, breathing people. No undead, no machines, no demons. etc.

well, it sounds nerdy in any case and I like nerdy, since I am one XD (seriously, I spend about 16h/day on a pc)
DraculJOSHI
7 years, 2 months ago
I really look forward to this, although I can't help you decide, because I have no feel for the scope of it yet.

btw, did you ever play TES Arena? The first dungeon wasn't too difficult, but now I got stuck in the city XD
SenGrisane
7 years, 2 months ago
I decided on point buy now.

No I haven't played TES
DraculJOSHI
7 years, 2 months ago
none or just not arena?

I mean, you have played one at least once... right?
I mean, morrowind was good, oblivion amazing, and skyrim looks better than those two together!
SenGrisane
7 years, 2 months ago
I played morrowwind I think for a bit.

Skyrim is my wet, wet, nerdy dream (check how hot the Kajits and Argonians look)
DraculJOSHI
7 years, 2 months ago
I was never particularly font on the kajits, but the Argonians were my fave ever since I first played a TES ^^

And yes, both look awesome in Syrim ^^

Actually, the first time I chose them purely because I thought they had the best abilities (breathing underwater, imune to toxic and resistend to illness).
And I still think they do, these are usefull from the beginning of the game until the end of it, unlike some other abilities...
