Comparison of Furry Art Sites on Wikifur

https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Comparison_of_Furry_Art_Sites

I made this page this morning to display the differences between some popular art sites that furries use. I'd really appreciate any help on making the article more informative - it's WikiFur, anyone can edit!

If anyone out there uses ElfWood or Sheezy Art, or any other site I don't have there, it'd be great if you could add the information! Or at least talk to me about it, if you don't want to bother with the Wiki's format.

Nice idea! We could do with more articles that draw from multiple topics.

IB does have Featured Submission option. It's on the submission, not in settings.

Where? I can't find it.

Open one of your submissions, and at the top, under the name, is a list of owner options; edit, delete, sale settings, pool settings, ect. At the end of that line, it has the Make Featured option. Took me a while to find it as well. Wasn't until I saw some profiles that had a Featured Submission instead of Recent Submission that I knew the site had the feature either.

Also, just looking around, I found it is also an option in the drop down tab in the gallery.

Neat idea! Well put together.

I'd argue we have way more features to do with uploads than pretty much any other site. We allow three different submit types from the one Post button (submissions, journals, streams) and then submissions has three totally different types (free, sales and bulk upload) before you can get started on submission details. We could offer "submissions, journals and streams" as top-level menu items again to reduce it by one page.

The next page after clicking "Submission" manages file uploads and is quite powerful. Multiple files uploaded to one submission, change thumbnails and page order, and it previews all the files and their thumbnails. Plenty for one page to do. Combining it with other pages would be confusing.

Submission details is next, which is a whole raft of various options all combined together into one page. It's already huge.

Pools next! And you can skip it immediately if it's not required. The Next button is right at the top. If you have lots of pools to list (which many artists do) then combining this page with others would be a problem. I'm guessing other sites that have "folders" don't list the folders and their contents, or allow you to assign them as you upload submissions, quite like we do.

Then the "Visibility" page is next and separate because there are three options for setting your submission Live that need quite a bit of text to explain them.

I'm open to suggestions about how to combine those pages. But as far as I'm concerned, any further combining would create some kind of nightmare uberpage. ;.;

Perhaps we need a "omg I just want to upload a quick free file that doesn't belong to a pool and should be visible right away" page. That could be one page. :3

I'm not ranking the sites on how many options they have. I'm raking on how long it takes, or how much effort, to upload a simple image.

The time it takes to upload something on IB compared to SF isn't vastly different for me (11 seconds longer on IB), but imagine if my internet was real slow, and it took longer to load the pages? Those 8-ish page loads all would add up.

But mainly it's the inconvenience that really gets me. SF and DA have almost as many options for uploads and get things accomplished in only one or two pages.

Different pages for a submission? Yes, I can see that requiring room of its own, but it'd be lovely if I could disable it if I knew I wasn't ever going to use it. Then I could just add "pages" to submissions after they're already finished and uploaded.

Pools can't be on the submission details page? Folders are on every single other site. I don't see why you need to have thumbnails of the folders to know what's in them. SoFurry has all the folders in a drop-down menu, which includes a "Make new folder" option.

The visibility can also just be accomplished via radio buttons or something like that. Let users choose one that is their default so they don't even have to think about it half the time.

I'm sorry if I'm coming off as insulting or anything. It's just a bit of a pain to upload art to other sites, get to IB, and think, "ugh, now this." The "multiple files per upload" seems unique, but other than that, I can't think of anything substantial that IB's long process really adds.

Oh oh! Don't forget to add "Sales system" or something like that. I think only IB and dA have that. :3 I could be wrong..

If you like, you could break it up in to "Digital Content" sales and "Print" sales. Pretty sure IB is the only one that allows digi content sales.

I've got the "integrated prints" system, but I guess I should change it to something more nebulous to apply to digital content.
