I'm NOT a pony...

...but since I can transform into one, it seemed appropriate to make a picture for the start of Season 2. Since, however, it was 90% created in a pony creator Flash, I can't really claim it as my own work: the only thing I did to the pony image it created was modify the tail pattern, triple said tail, and add a cutie mark--half of which was a Paint Shop Pro clipart vector shape.

So I posted it on Imageshack. Enjoy! http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/9623/alfalfadoor.png

The filename is reference to the fact that, were I to transform in order to infiltrate Equestria incognito, I'd use a name close enough to my own that I wouldn't get confused when somepony called it out. "Alfalfa Door". >:3 The cutie mark is a transistor over a lightning bolt, because what I seem to be really good with is computers and other electronics.

Edit: Here's the one I used: https://generalzoi.deviantart.com/art/Pony-Creator-Full...

Chill; this isn't permanent. Just a fun thing I did for the start of Season 2. I'm still a fox. Honest!

You misunderstand; my 'not you too' was referring to you being a fan of the show at all. :/

It'll be Alex next. I'll probably die a little inside.

I do like the show, but I'm not about to start drawing ponies. Mostly, I just like the fact that it's a kids show that seems to be geared towards kids instead of hipsters. I am not fond of most animation these days.

Also, it's geared towards kids rather than "some wrongheaded notion of what kids are into and think is cool this year". Also it's a show for girls, not for stereotypical over-feminine ideals. Lauren Faust, in an interview with the fan site Equestria Daily, specifically said the team was trying their hardest to avoid making the show all about pink and rainbows and frou-frou stuff like a lot of for-girls shows were back during the original MLP show's heyday. Only one character is pink instead of all of them, only one character is heavily into fancy outfits instead of all of them, and the only rainbow character is about as masculine as it's possible for a pony to get while still having a vagina.

They succeeded in that, while it's still a show about cute ponies and magical unicorns and pegasi, it's not DUMB.

Also (also also), I've noticed it creates NO END of controversy and drama whenever it shows up on furry sites, or whenever furries show up on pony fansites. Witness the veritable STORM of journals about this week's FurAffinity banner. XD And so many pony fans are quick to dismiss "Oh, we're TOTALLY not furries, ew, those people are gross!" while ignoring the fact that, under the accepted definitions of furry characters and furry fandom, fans of My Little Pony... TOTALLY ARE FURRIES.

>They succeeded in that, while it's still a show about cute ponies and magical unicorns and pegasi, it's not DUMB.

True. And gawd, that is a breath of fresh air.

You know what else I like? The episodes end with a resolution to the current conflict, instead of a lot of other current shows that end with the main characters in some kind of awful peril, and then it just ends. Dexter's Laboratory did a lot of that. It unnerves me now. I can only imagine how it must mess with kids.

>TOTALLY ARE FURRIES.

Tee hee. I almost wanna see some pony fans get all huffy about this. Seeing furries denying vehemently their furry status amuses me.

In my personal opinion, it has the same writing quality as every other kid's show I've seen on daytime TV.

I watched an episode and didn't like it one bit. I believe I closed the video after hearing something like "A SONIC DASH?! THAT HAS TO BE COOL! I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS, BUT IT'S A SONIC DASH!"

But I've gotten into this argument more times than I can count. I find the show nothing special, and the fanbase possibly the most irritating group of people I've ever seen on the internet.

The weird thing is that when I finally got around to watching an episode, I WANTED to like it, to maybe understand what the fanaticism was all about. I'm just more confused now.

Allrighty. I can see how it can be annoying. There's just so MUCH pony stuff. I mean, for instance, there's an artist I like who used to draw lots of really fun, creative, clever porn and now draws almost nothing but ponies. His pony stuff is still fun, but I miss his other stuff. (Though I'm perfectly aware that it's a little selfish of me to want him to do what i like instead of what he likes, so it's not like I'd tell him 'you need draw this now!')

Cant imagine you as a pony. And i would have bet money that your cutie mark would have been a hangmans noose

a) Then good news, I'm still a fox, I just transformed temporarily. :3

b) Snuffie is a huge interest of mine, but not my "special talent"/career. Dunno why I decided to go with one that fit my real life self more than in-character, but there ya go.

Specifically, the transistor is a TO-92 case design. :-)
I'm sure SOMEONE has used just about all the schematic symbols as cutie marks on their ponies - there are enough for a massive herd!

WARNING: NERDY PUN AHEAD!

Impedance Match: the mayor of Silicolt, the primary manufacturing center for Equestria's electronics. Due to the relatively recent discovery of electronics textbooks in an archaeological dig, many artifacts from the mysterious "humans" civilization are now much better understood, and many ponies specialize in creating devices to convert magical energy into electrical power at the proper voltage and frequency to power such artifacts and their magically-reproduced copies.

Since Equestria lacks the power generation and distribution infrastructure of that lost civilization, magical converters and power cells are the only reasonable way to power the ancient devices. With the help of the newly-discovered textbooks, the ponies of Silicolt are hard at work rediscovering much of this lost technology.

(All of this is more fanon I made up myself, based on my initial idea that Equestria is a far-future Earth where the descendants of genetically-enhanced equines rule a world far from its initial orbit--the Sun having gone red giant eons ago, the Earth is now orbited by an artificial sun and moon, maintained by immortal pony princesses Celestia and Luna.)

(Also, I didn't know it was called TO-92; it's just the style of transistor case I remembered using in my labs at UW. =^_^=)

I learned a lot of this stuff a long time ago, and my current job piled the knowledge on. After working in an electronics supply house for a few years, getting a ham radio license was easy.

If someone asks me for a transistor, I ask them a LOT more questions and whip out a reference catalog the size of a major metropolitan phone book. Most people would give a blank look, or smirk and reply, "Oh, you want those weird nuns?" ;-)

Thanks! And if I slip up and forget to make it glow when I'm doing something, it won't necessarily reveal that I'm using fox magic instead of unicorn magic--I can always pass it off as another animation glitch! >:3

Interesting. A lot of options here ^^
Alfador
12 years, 6 months ago
Indeed! I'm glad I was able to find one that could make a stallion--the pony creator for "Adventures in Ponyville" on the Hubworld site doesn't have body options at all, it's mostly color and playing dress-up, and you can only create a mare. Just goes to show how awesome fan works can be.

Teehee. One's name is a trigger for attention; many's the time in my life when I've heard phonemes that sound ALMOST like "Brian" or "Alfie" or "Alfador" and look around to see if anybody's trying to talk to me. If I used a completely different name for my pony name, I might give myself away by accidentally ignoring it when somepony really was trying to talk to me... but "Alfalfa Door" when pronounced contains the sounds of "Alfador" in it, so I would immediately respond. >:3
