I saw this a while back through someone's email, didn't even bother to reply to it or click the link, seeing as I had an odd feeling about it.

Wait, how do those even work?
If they somehow imitate someone you knows account then I can see a problem, but otherwise I'd ..hope(to-put-it-politely) nobody actually falls for random friending requests out of nowhere, that's just common sense.

But maybe I'm shielded since I treat social sites like plagues.

well I accept random friend regquests, if they happen to be bots or assholes I just delete them.

...
People openly becoming part of and trusting social media is worrisome to say the least.
There is no shortage of sleaze that will take advantage of people and it's only just begun.
These are literally databases of peoples vulnerabilities.
Sorry but what I see is cattle walking to the slaughterhouses everywhere.

Generally, if they give strange or irrelevant answers to your questions, or keep mentioning the same thing over and over, it's a bot.

I've been getting those for months, must have gotten hundred or so of them. The communicator doesn't matter, they happen everywhere. They get pretty annoying with time.
Its very primitive spam chat bots, more like just a few lines of text repeating over and over again.

Spammers were trying to spread this to the Furry Avalon forums too. I know from deleting a few.

Bots I get on yahoo are tons of fun to mess with.  Its basically the same thing, but its not always about caming, just never click the link to be safe.  An old friend of mine was hacked and was a bot, because it was his user I thought he was serious.

It went like this...

Him: Hey dude =D
Me: Hey, long time to talk, whats been going on?
Him: I made a bet, can you help me out?
Me: Yea, sure, whats the bet about?
Him: I made a bet to see find 10 people with an IQ over 110.
Him: Go to "site name" and fill it out please, i'll be in a lot of trouble if I dont get 10 people.
Me: Did you get hacked?
Him: I didnt get hacked!
Me: bot?
Him: Im not a bot, wtf!
Me: Prove it, tell me something I told you about me, or your a bot.
Him: Im not a bot, wtf!
Me: yeaaaaa, nice try bot, but good job on the scripting.
Him: Im not a bot, wtf!

Major reason I abandoned MSN was because they could send these without joining your contacts. I've had 5 join my skype and I always deny em.

None the less, good alert.

Random messages and contact is always a scam or bot.  Like asking me for Paypal information in an e-mail account I don't use for Paypal.  Oh, then there is the credit card from a bank I never heard of.

I would not respond to the bots.  All that does is verify that they have found an active account.  Any information is useful to a thief so keep them guessing.
