One Week Writing Challenge, from Assilsasta

From Assilsasta, https://inkbunny.net/journalview.php?id=146685

Since my work schedule may not leave me a heck of a lot of time to write until after his deadline of the end of the month, I thought I'd write out my creative process. What you're looking at is raw notes. Creativity is a messy process. :-)

-------------
I started with the story requirements:

* The story ends in a tomb.
* During the story, a mysterious package arrives.
* A character writes a diary.
* The story must involve a sack in the beginning.
* During the story, a character inherits an unusual object.

-------------
And shuffled them around a bit to form a synopsis that makes sense to me:

1. A character writes a diary.
2. The story must involve a sack in the beginning.
3. During the story, a mysterious package arrives.
4. During the story, a character inherits an unusual object.
5. The story ends in a tomb.

-------------
Now start filling some things in, tropes as tools if needed:

1. A character writes a diary.
Framing device to set the stage. Telling part of the story as a flashback works.

2. The story must involve a sack in the beginning.
...okay, I'm suddenly a bit stuck. What is meant by "Sack" here? "Sack" as in "a bag", or "to loot" (like sacking Rome), the British use of "eject from employment", the American Football meaning of "catch the quarterback before he throws the ball", "Scrotum"...

3. During the story, a mysterious package arrives.
The easy answer is a box with no return address; or that part of the address label was ripped off, smeared, or covered. Play with the meaning of "Package," though, and a slang term can... okay, mind OUT of the sewer!

4. During the story, a character inherits an unusual object.
The "mysterious package" is part of the key to this inheritance.

5. The story ends in a tomb.
Don't all stories end there? Well, some end at a crematory, others in shallow unmarked graves...

-------------
Since I can't make up my mind on the meaning of Sack in Requirement #2, I'll use several of them at once.

1. A character writes a diary.
2. The story must involve a sack in the beginning.

" Sunday Evening

I'm really glad I never got into [American Rules] Football further than understanding the rules. I do like the sport from the view of strategy and tactics, but the main thing I get tired of hearing about is the effort to get me involved in the office betting pool. Time and again I told my co-workers to fuck off, my bet is that someone will be unhappy with the results. Take this past Sunday. The two teams this were 'the unbreachable wall' versus 'the immovable object', working on the strongest defenses ever. I thought it'd be interesting to watch, if nothing else. Well, it was and it wasn't. Only time I ever saw a game be zilch at halftime, and go into sudden death overtime to end at a 1-0. Sack after sack, seemed the quarterbacks couldn't get away with anything.

I finished installing the flooring in the front room while the game was on. Tina figured out what was wrong with the gas line, so now we have our stove working. I'm a bit tired of pizza.

I overheard Bob bragging about the point spread for the football game, and I bet he's going to be mad. No, that's not a bet, that's an investment strategy. I just wonder, though, if he's still going to have a job after trying to hit on the boss's daughter like that.

That reminds me: tomorrow is garbage day. I'm still not used to having it on Monday. I have to bag it up early, but I can't leave it out overnight. Too many insects.

Okay, that's a bit contrived, but what the hell. Right now, NaNoWriMo rules apply - No plot? No problem! :-)
