Changes Inkbunny ought to make

by
This is just my opinion here, not the gawd given truth, but hey I use the site a lot to upload stuff and get picky about GUI's, so I I believe it has a lil weight.

1. Get rid of the  keyword suggestion popup thing!!!! I can type "male" in 2 seconds flat, the suggestion popup waits till i'm done and already typing on the next keyword box to show me a suggestion for the first!!! So I have to wait for it to disappear to be able to even type anything. I'm very certain that people who can read text can also spell correctly and type it into a box, especially small keywords.

2. A drag and drop order placement for the images in a submission. This may sound like a huge complicated thing, but I'm sure it can easily be managed with flash or javascript. Heck just look at these examples I found in google::
http://elouai.com/javascript-drag-and-drop.php
http://www.flashvalley.com/fv_tutorials/advanced_drag_...

3. Put some forward and back buttons on the sides of an submission with multiple images and have javascript load the image. Having to scroll down to click the next image isn't too bad, but it could be better! Reloading the entire page just for that one image however, seems to slow down things a lot!

4. If I look through a comic and want to get back to a person's gallery, I instinctively hit the back button, but this only goes back to the "last page"  you were on, which is the same submission. Yes there's a "gallery" button, but can you find it quickly through all the other stuff on the page? It doesn't take you back to the gallery page you were on either!!! So it's not very useful. I have a lot of submissions...I know!!

5. Lots of wasted space in the visual design and clutter. Am I the only person that finds the interface a bit much?  Text isn't really the best way to "talk" about this one, I'd rather slap an image here instead.  I've heard of a few people refusing to use IB simply because it was hard to navigate for them. Don't get me wrong here, I like the site itself, lots of good stuff here, but argh...it could be better!

6. More API stuff pleeeez. I was making an app to work around the "pool" system's way of arranging images, but then I found out there's no support for edit pools...doh! So I stopped working on it. Using curl to get tokens and all the secure junk is a lil over my head ^////^ *sigh* I'd love to have a drag and drop app....

7. Replies. So I want to reply to a long comment, *clicks button and watches the page scroll all the way to the bottom and place a tiny snippet of the full comment above the comment box*. Uh, it'd be super wonderful if I had a visual memory that could pick words off of a page of text, but my brain doesn't do that. I gotta see what the heck I'm replying to!! My usual work around for this is: *use launchy to quickly open notepad, middle click it's "X" button to stick it "always on top", put it over my browser, and scroll through the long comment, copying bits to quote and replying to stuff, then copy all that I typed, pasting the comment box...yadda yadda. Surely it's possible to have the full comment in a neat little box that scrolls? Or maybe a seperate page with half it's vertical length being that comment, and the other your reply for easy editing?

8. Adding submissions to pools could be made into a small drop down menu or a box that scrolls, does it really need it's own page? Also, there could be a small dropdown menu on the page of that submission (after it's been made public and all that jazz) to pick a pool, and an "add" button beside it that does the job. This would only show up for the owner of that submission o'course. The dropdown box could also be a combo box, something you can type into as well as select from. Images aren't always necessary for menus, and would totally avoid the need for a whole extra page.

9. Horizontal space could be used more. I notice some long descriptions under some options that have really small titles. Like "character sheet" in the "Edit Submission" page.  Couldn't these long descriptions just be tooltips. What about using the "title" attribute? http://www.w3schools.com/tags/att_standard_title.asp
This way, you could stick those check boxes next to eachother. Same deal with the rating section. You could add plenty of stuff to read without gobbling up all that precious space. The descriptions don't always need to be there in the user's face. After a while, you learn what everything is for and it's easy, no need for reading.

That's about all I can think up atm. Yes it's little stuff perhaps, but repeat that little stuff LOTS of times over a day, a week, a month....it gets old!!  I don't really browse the site that much, but even just being an uploader, it irks me.  /rant

1.  I've always found keyword suggestions to be pointless and annoying.  If I'm already at the point where I'm searching for something, I probably have an idea as to what I'm searching for.

2.  ...  <head explodes>  This must be an artist thing, 'cause I have no idea what you're talking about...

3.  Better yet, get rid of it altogether.  Seeing a single submission show up, only to find it has 75+ images associated with it, is incredibly annoying, and I have yet to ever do anything other than just close the tab and move on without looking at anything other than whatever pops up first.

4.  Agreed, I think.  Haven't run into this issue, but I think I know what you're saying.  :-]

5.  The interface is a bit difficult for me to see, being colorblind and contrast blind, but after spending a few minutes with it, it honestly seems pretty straight-forward.  Just had to set the background image to gray so I could see the rest of the site.  InkBunny is definitely -not- friendly to those with visual impairments.

6.  Wait, iTunes actually approved something for the site?  I'm confused...

7.  YES!!!  Holy CRAP yes!

8.  Again, get rid of this stupid pooling thing.  One submission should be one submission, period.  :-\

9.  Again, visual impairments suck.  Limiting the horizontal layout of the site is actually -beneficial- to reading speed, as well as operating efficiency.  If this site went edge-to-edge, I don't think I could use it...

Well, I didn't mean stretching everything out to the edges. Mainly it was about cutting out text that you don't always have to read to save space and making it like a tooltip. I agree with you on the horizontal thing too, I can't stand to read a wall of text stretched out to the max width of my monitor.

" 2.  ...  <head explodes>  This must be an artist thing, 'cause I have no idea what you're talking about...

LOL!! Try it sometime just for kicks. You'll see ^__^  *ducktapes your head back together*

The option to include multiple files in a single submission is a great idea I wish people would use more. It helps reduce clutter and make galleries easier to navigate. It's a great tool for keeping comics in order and to keep works-in-progress from taking over a gallery. Hell, a few days ago

BA
posted a lot of his old art and rather than punish his watchers by stuffing seventy-five (75!) files into their inbox, he posted it as a single submission that people could browse at their leisure. After remembering the time after FA banned cub porn and so every cub artist I watched started dumping their old art on here by the truck load, I was appreciative.

I'm not sure about 5., I'm not even sure what you are talking about in 6, I'm also not sure if I agree with 9
As for other points I think they sound good, although some of them don't really matter all that much to me.
Especially point 1 is a bit annoying, the word suggestion pop-up. I get what it's for but it's slow and annoying, maybe an option to turn it off or something.

" I'm not sure about 5

Eh, I'd have to show some screencaps with stuff marked. Hard to be clear with text.

" I'm not even sure what you are talking about in 6

My point there was that you can't use the API only to edit all the stuff about a submission. To do pools, you HAVE to go through the site. I really don't like jumping through all those HTML pages and scrolling up and down just to check where an image is in a sequence or pool. It there was an API function for ordering images, I could do it a lot simpler with an AHK app.

" I'm also not sure if I agree with 9

On this one, especially on the submission details page, I see a ton of white space that could be used to put controls into instead of serving no purpose at all. It just makes the page a lot bigger than it has to be and a pain to scroll around just for a few simple checkboxes and edit boxes.

What I meant is, I'm not sure I want the page page changed that way, I sort of like the way it is now.

I agree on a lot of points ... I ALSO HATE THE KEYWORD SUGGESTION THING!! I can't even see what the fuck I'm typing!

It's like the worst autocorrect in the world.

Looq, I love your stuff, that's 1.
2. Why not ask in a Trouble Ticket, to have a way to disable it?
I actually like a lot of the stuff they did, but that's not to say everyone would. <3

Huggles.

Now I remember what I was gonna type, and where disable and what.
In the All New Submissions, I wish I could disable the (Remove All Submissions) button, so that I am sure I do not accidentally hit it. If I do, then they'll be a lot of new stuff there, that I won't know exists... I just don't wanna have a chance of that ever happening. Being able to choose to remove it, unless I have (???????????) reason to use it?
That would be a good request... I believe anyway.

1. Get rid of the  keyword suggestion popup thing!!!!
Agree.  I think it should be available as an option, but not be automatic.  Perhaps a setting in our preferences.

2. A drag and drop order placement for the images in a submission.
I think this one could be bad, unless it was optional.  Every bit of flash that is added just makes things slower and more hungry for memory, and not all of us can afford to have fast hardware with tons of RAM.

3. Put some forward and back buttons on the sides of an submission with multiple images and have javascript load the image.
I absolutely hate the multiple image per submission feature.  Having bad eyes, I usually don't notice the tiny numbers on the thumbnails, and often don't realize there even are multiples.  I prefer to see only one image per submission.  But, since we already have multiple images per submission, and some people like it, we might as well have back and forward buttons to make them a lot easier to navigate.

4. If I look through a comic and want to get back to a person's gallery....
Something like a "back to current gallery page" button would work.  I normally open each submission on a gallery page in its own browser tab. Then, I view and close each tab in turn, until the only open tab is the gallery page again.  I go to the next gallery page, and repeat the process.  It's very fast that way.  The current gallery page is always available - usually the left-most tab in my browser.

5. Lots of wasted space in the visual design and clutter.
I have low vision, so things need to be kept relatively simple, and visible, without clutter interfering with the text.  It's not too bad right now.  Maybe it can be made better.  It certainly can be a lot worse though.  So, it's hard to say if this is a good thing to ask for, as it could easily result in a site that people with low vision can't use, if not done properly.  I'm glad the background image can be set to plain gray, otherwise, it would be very hard for me to see anything on the site.  I actually wish it was a somewhat lighter gray though.

6. More API stuff pleeeez.
As long as it is only optional, and has no impact on the otherwise fast speed of the site.

7. Replies. So I want to reply to a long comment....
Yes!  Yes!  Yes!  This is the big one for me.  I hate having to scroll up and down in order to comment on different parts of someone's text, always losing my place.  For this reply, I had to copy and past the original message into my reply, and delete each point as I replied to it, just to avoid scrolling.

8. Adding submissions to pools could be made into a small drop down menu or a box that scrolls, does it really need it's own page?
Not a feature I'd ever use.  I'm not a big fan of pools or multiple images per submission, and wish there was a way to turn both of those features off for myself. But, since pools are already here, you might as well have the features that make them more useful to you.

9. Horizontal space could be used more.
That could so easily break the site for some of us, unless it is handled carefully.  For example, I have to use large text because of my eyes.  Right now, the site works fine, with no overlapping text and no horizontal scrolling needed.  Most sites that attempt to use "all" of the space, also have a nasty habit of expecting that all users will have perfect vision and use very tiny fonts, or that the user will be willing to scroll horizontally just to read something.  So, if they change anything in this area, it needs to be tested in a wide ranges of font sizes and resolutions.  I'm all for increasing efficiency, so long as it doesn't interfere with my ability to use it with low vision.

Overall, your number 7 is my favorite.

My biggest issue with the site, as a browser (I don't upload much, really... or anything), is the fact that the block and ban features don't hide a person's comments. They just prevent them from commenting on my page and submissions. I want to completely blot out some people's very existence so I never have to even be aware they're commenting *anywhere*, even on other people's submissions.
Whippy

Oh...I was fixing to say that in blocking a person's comments, IB does give you the option of  deleting their posts from your own pages. It would be nice to completely block everything from that person no matter where you are on IB. But I kind of imagine this would leave some akward gaps in conversations from other people's perpective if you should reply to somebody in a conversation and your blocked person replies somewhere. Hmm, I'm not sure if it blocks people from ever commenting to you anywhere else on the site though...would be great if it did.
