Two New Shows On FOX-TV (Angels and ministers of grace, defend us.)

by
For the 2011-2012 season, FOX-TV have a new Sci-Fi series called Terra Nova. The Earth is dying; an ordinary family from 2149 is sent back 85 million years in time, (about three quarters through the Cretaceous), to live in a colony where humanity can have a "second chance" at civilization among the T-Rexes and V-Raptors. (Pity they didn't go back 65.5 million years; the Terra Nova colony could have been responsible for the K-T Extinction Event.) So Terra Nova is a mash-up of the ST:TOS episode "All Our Yesterdays" and "Jurassic Park," only a whole season long. Hollywood Is Out Of Ideas!

For the 2013-2014 season, FOX-TV is adding 13 new episodes to Carl Sagan's old 1980 PBS documentary series Cosmos. The producer will be Seth (Family Guy) MacFarlane. Replacing Sagan as host, Family Guy regular Cleveland will be voiced by astrophysicist and PBS Nova: Science Now host Neil deGrasse Tyson. By The Lord, this has fail written all over it! Let's hope they kill it before any episodes reach the public.

The dinosaurs.  That's the only reason the producers would send people back to the Cretaceous.  I can think of a whole lot of reasons the Cretaceous would be a bad time to send humans without getting into the highly dangerous carnivores roaming around.

I'd have gone for a million or four years back, when things would be relatively similar to Earth now (still with dangerous carnivores, but they'd be more familiar to us).  From a production standpoint, a lot of "prehistoric" species could be fudged with trained modern animals without special effects, plus we could get provocative storylines such as "our australopithecine ancestors as workers: slaves or pets?"  Oh, wait, that might get viewers to thinking.  We don't want that, now do we? :o

As for Cosmos, sequelitis and E. rebooticoli sure are getting worse.  Will they be making safer, less scientific episodes so they don't offend the Moral Guardians or will they just make lots of toilet jokes only with stars and planets?

Safer, less scientific episodes with greenhouse denial and evolution "balanced" by intelligent creation, vast and cosmic toilet jokes; I don't know which would be worse!

Arguably, the "safer", less scientific episodes would be worse.  While still horrible, at least the cosmic toilet "humor" stands a better chance of accuracy, assuming anyone can stomach it.

IDK, I'm interested in watching Terra Nova.  The way they advertised it reminds me a bit of the visual aspect of Avatar (the blue people movie, that is, and yes, they even have the main antagonist from Avatar in this one!), so I'm interested in seeing how it turns out.  Hopefully it won't be a fail.

Cosmos, if it were only being co-produced by Seth MacFarlane, I wouldn't be dreading it too much, but since they have Cleveland as the narrator (even though he will be voiced by Neil), I'm just over here facepalming, thinking "what the hell were they thinking?!"

Okay, that was an exaggeration. I expected people to notice it when looking at the sites. Tyson is the host. I just expect MacFarlane to treat him like Cleveland.

...although if you look at them side-by-side, Tyson and Cleveland do look a bit similar; round face, round body, dark skin, moustache, heavy eyelids... The main difference is that Tyson is an astrophysicist and Cleveland is a 'toon.

Ha ha ha ha!!! Fair enough.  (Wish I had time this morning to explore the websites listed, ROFL.  Okay, hopefully Seth will keep the Family Guy out the Cosmos, since I don't care much for Family Guy. *blushes*)
