Now, I'm not normally one for blowing my own trumpet. I accept that a lot of people seem to like my work and read my stuff and I get numbers that an artist would be proud of. I think I'm probably quite a popular writer. But then beta.sofurry.com came along, and I had rather a big shock. There's an option on the new beta site, to look at all stories, ranked by popularity, for the entire time that SoFurry and Yiffstar have ever existed. No such option exists on the present (old) Sofurry. Well, you can hack the URL and get it, but there's nothing to click for it. So what happens if you look at all the stories ever published on Sofurry, listed by popularity? (Click here - https://beta.sofurry.com/browse/all/stories?sortby=popu... )
You get my story at the top, chapter 1 of Bump In The Night, with approximately 50,000 views since it was first posted here at the end of 2006. I figured this was some kind of bug in the new site, but nope, you can display the exact same thing on the old site if you just tweak the URL a bit. I'm number 1, I'm literally number 1 of the entire site, and by quite a long way. Nearest to it is at number 2, Aquifers by Kyell Gold, which he turned into the book Waterways. 27,000 views, since the summer of 2005. That's only just over half mine, and it's been out over a year longer, and Kyell Gold is pretty well known I think. I am totally shocked, and still shocked, and I truly had no idea. It must have been this way for a very long time, just looking at the numbers. That is one hell of an endorsement from my fans.
Most popular artwork on the site doesn't seem ranked in the same way, though I can't find any piece of art on the 'most popular of all time' page over about 36,000 views. So, thanks all you guys for reading, especially those of you here since the start. And think about how, if everyone viewing that chapter 1 donated a dollar... Damn I'd probably be printing you all signed copies of the book or something :D Please donate here, donations for August have dried up - https://inkbunny.net/donate.php?user_id=3176
