Boycot Capcom! (Freaking do it now!)

http://www.capcom-unity.com/devroom/

Megaman Legends 3 has been cancelled in what may be the biggest cock tease in video game history.

I don't know what to say i was looking foreword to this video game SO MUCH you cant even KNOW how much. BUT not only does Capcom not seem to give twos hits about there American fan base they don't seem to care about mega man anymore ether.

megaman legends was my favorite megaman game I loved it =p it was everything a 3d megaman game should be! now with megaman legends 3 we had a chance to actually help develop the game. Now, So close to the completion of the games prototype (which apparently would have been downloadable in the Nintendo E shop for your 3DS) They have cancelled it for extremely vague reasons. Some Shit about not meeting criteria.

I'm done im not buying another capcom game if the game even has capcom on the BOX im not buying it. I don't care if they release freaking breath of fire 5. If your going to do this to your fan base after getting so many of us so excited im not going to support you.

Yeah, it is kind of a dick move.  Especially when it's probably the most requested sequel your company has had.

I never played any of the MML games.  I have no interest in that spin-off series.  I am a fan of the classic Mega Man series, though.  And with Inafune gone from Capcom, I worry about the future of the original series.  I'm glad that Mega Man Universe was canceled, because my hopes were long since destroyed when I found out that game was going to be a glorified level editor with only Mega Man 2 stuff.  I was hoping for something that included stuff (items, weapons, and robot masters) from every classic Mega Man game.  I figured that's what the "Universe" was all about.  Silly me, right? ¬_¬

But really, I hope there's a Mega Man 11 at some point, but I fear for its quality without Inafune.  I'm still waiting for the Classic/X crossover.

Honistly I stoped giveing a shit about megaman's main story line when the megaman X time line abandoned the entire Dr. Wily Story Arc they had been building for like 4 games.
Zeikcied

The great thing about the Classic series is there is no real story arc.  Wily keeps building robots (or framing Light, posing as someone else, or blackmailing others to take the blame) to take over the world.  The X series introduced an actual plot that was revealed game after game.  And while X5 was supposed to be the ending (X6 was made without Inafune's knowledge), it still has a definite ending.  Much like the Zero series, and apparently the ZX series.  The Classic series will never have a definite end.  They could do the Classic/X crossover and have it end with X and Zero put back into hibernation so the series can continue to go on as if nothing had happened.  (Though I still want to know what happened to Rock, Roll, and all the other pre-Reploid robots prior to the X series beginning.)

not really sure how to respond to this new development.  on the one hand i would've loved to continue the megaman legends series, on the other i'm too broke to own a 3ds in the first place XD.

I don't what to say about this. I always thought MML3 was just a made up fan story to get people pumped up. But to see it was real and was cancelled is crazy. I sadly don't feel the same about all this since I wasn't really paying attention to Legends. I was always looking for MMX9 and things since I played all 8 games so far.

I've never cared for the Mega Man games before, but I have been upset with Capcom as well lately, since they haven't brought Ace Attorney Investigations 2 over here. I was hoping it would be brought over to Europe at least so I could import it at least, like I did with Tingles Rosy Rupeeland or Last Window, but I hadn't heard anything about that either.

I'm really not surprised it got canceled after Inafune left. He was the main driving force behind the game and honestly one of the only reasons it got as far as it did. It's a damn shame that it won't come to fruition, but I wouldn't blame Capcom; it's not their fault that he left (or, well, it is, but you know what I mean).

Show a corporation that I want more of their product by no longer purchasing their products and no longer being in their target demographic? BRILLIANT!!
KevinSnowpaw
12 years, 8 months ago
well if enough people are angry about that corporation there going to want to make concession to win back there fanbase. plenty of people in both North America and japan alone are not only angry but out right enraged by this, it's the most demanded sequel to any game they have made to date, and they just sacked it. dick move.

IT is their choice and right to cancel a game, even if canceling is a bad idea. Maybe if sales drop enough then they'll make it I mean look at Final Fantasy X-2. It came about due to a boycott about having such a drop-off ending to FFX.

Now I liked the MM legends series and the MMX series equally (I still like the original MM series just not as much as these two) and am sad that we will not be seeing MML3. But don't give up hope it was only canceled meaning they still have the data they worked o and may come back to it, if the project was scrapped then you should truly mourn.
KevinSnowpaw

it basically was scraped and i wouldn't care f it was announced and then canceled it was announced partially developed they almost had a prototype and the fanbase helped MAKE the game and then they abandoned it.

It's a strong possibility they DON'T care anymore. But there's a huge reason for that. Keiji Inafune...Megaman was HIS baby. (Save for MMX6-Command Mission), and...he left Capcom last year. I almost was able to promise this was going to happen. He's not pat of capcom, and Megaman was no longer his. So knowing that, Capcom likely didn't give any craps about the Blue Bomber. It's like, one of my favorite video game series, and that's how I knew that something awful like that was gonna happen when I heard Keiji left the company to go back to his roots. Maybe, just maybe, Capcom will give him back Megaman, so he can create more under his Comcepts company he started last year.
KevinSnowpaw
12 years, 8 months ago
yeah capcoms just going to hand over the rights to megaman =p I dont think so X3
MaverickSkye
12 years, 8 months ago
They might as well. They obviously aren't gonna do anything with it. As I said, Megaman was Keiji's son, and he was THE Global president of Capcom before he left. I'm sure he could still have SOME pull over the company to get his child back, instead of letting them reak havoc on the fanbase the way Capcom just did. Hundreds of thousands of gamers are disowning the Megaman Series and Capcom as a whole just simply from this screw up. Hopefully, Inafune will be able to afford his kid back.
KevinSnowpaw
12 years, 8 months ago
yes but from a legal perspective megaman is owned by capcom every time somebody buys something with mega mans face on it they make a dollar. it would be retarded of them to give the property rights away to him, there not gonna do it. even if they never make another megaman game Mega himself is still worth allot.
MaverickSkye

The man has lost his son to profit. How sad. I really wonder what Keiji's thinking of all this.

I know it sucks to be a little behind on the technology pyramid, but have you played all of the games you want to play for the DSi?  Seems to me until you do, there would be no need to buy a new DS anyway.  The price for the 3DS will go down while you finish your que, and they'll probably have another one before you finish the games on the DSi ;p
ShanetheFreestyler

Actually, no. I only own two DS games, and there are more I wish I had, like the Ace Attorney games for example. (Another Capcom series they're screwing us by making the newest Japan only so far.)

Yeah, back in 2006, Capcom closed the studio that made challenging Viewtiful Joe & well-loved Okami... both IP's are still used by Capcom today, which makes them look fairly hypocritical.

I agree with others before and saying that most remakes or spin offs are crap, but I liked the original show of megaman. What gets me is when they change crap to "make it better" Like that Megaman data warrior or whatever the hell it was called. Taking full sized robots beating the crap outta each other to some kids plaything where they fight on a battle field in thier watches using power cards or some crap? I mean what the hell people? Anyways ya I pretty much say blow off on a spin off game, but still ya dick move capcom. As of for the 3DS thing I think all yall crazy getting those gimmiks. All nintendo is doing is remaking n64 games and giving them a "3d" feel. I still use my original big block DS and will till it dies and then get another as unlike all the others it can play Adv games. I think the lite could actually so might goto that but until they either drop in price as 250 for a handheld is fricken crazy or release something that actually catches my eye I'll stick to boring old flat screen 3d games.

WHAT?!

I'm so pissed off, I can't even express it without using excessive profanity. I'm just so disappointed in Capcom lately. Edgeworth Investigations 2 and Operation Shooting Star were cancelled for overseas releases, Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright won't be released here either, and now this. It's rediculous.

Clearly. Capcom used to be my second favourite game developer, but I don't want to have to learn a second language in order to enjoy some of my favourite series. And then there's this travesty. The game looked so promising. They looked like they had so much done. How can they just pull the plug? Especially after waving it in front of our faces for so long.

Dude, the Megaman fans here in the US are STUPID AND CHILDISH! I don't BLAME THEM for canning it! We got Megaman fans who only care about the continuity THEY LIKE and shit all over the one they hate. Start Force didn't last too long because of us, and some poor bastard got booed and chased out of a con because he asked the Marvel VS. Capcom team if Battle Network's Mega Man would be in. Is THAT a fanbase you'd support?
KevinSnowpaw
12 years, 8 months ago
nattle network was not realy all that great a game and im not going to count the retarted actions of some as a glowing example of the US fanbase. Regardless MML3 remains to most requisted squeal they have and yet they caned it, for exceptionaly vague reasons. THough there quick to insist the games creater leaveing has nothing to do with it. It might very well have much to do with it. point is capcom pulls crap like this all the time.

Look at what they did to breath of fire. breath of fire 3 and 4 were two of my favorite RPG's EVER and while i only got a chance to enjoy breath of fire 1 and 2 on the GBA they were honestly good games for there time. Then they released that dragon quarter crap and let the game die in a fire. If I have to see one  more crappy Resident Evil street fighter clone or DMC game it's not worth supporting the company. I like DMC personaly bbut there games just have not been as much fun as the first one was. theres nothing wrong about being angry that they have cancled the continuation of my favorite megaman time line. I have been a fan of the blue bomber since the days of the nintendo and I love the main line of games, but Legends struck a cord with me so im very very hurt to have it taken away when we were so very close.

*huffs* well shit, guess all the devs are shitting out for good. the game industry is fucking lame nowadays, stupid competitive whoever licks the most ass wins corporate structure in most of them. only making intensely graphical games for $ and not for gameplay is wrong in my mind, but hell, mebby thats why none of my games have gotten made. anyway </rant>TL;DR i'd have really liked to see my fav capcom baddies, the Bonne family, make a return. oh well...

I had no idea they were working on MML3 in the first place. I had hoped they would, but I never expected they would anytime soon. Still, I looked at the site and wow... They canceled it after they had done all that work on it? Really? Even had voice actors recorded and ready? Geez... I understand why everyone is upset now. I haven't been too impressed with the "new" NES style Megaman games to be honest. I'm all for nostalgia, but they could have done more with it. Megaman Powered Up was a good example of what to do with classic Megaman, and its great! They should keep working in that area in my opinion. I guess they just have no real love for Megaman/Rockman anymore. They didn't even have him in Marvel Vs Capcom 3. Zero is a good fighter, but I still want Megaman in there somewhere. I doubt I'll be buying any Capcom games in the future, considering what they've done to Devil May Cry and others. They need to get their act together.

Dear... Capcom has put in tons for the Megaman series.  There are 7 Megaman universes totaling over 100 games according to Wiki. Eventually, they will release the game you are upset about and they are likely making advancements for it.

Capcom has also produced Okami, Okamiden, and The Legend of Kay, all three being independent furry games along with cartoon backed furry games. Boycotting a company only because they didn't release the game you wanted, even if there are games you would buy, will only force that company to take fewer chances, which means cookie cutter games that are guaranteed to sale: mostly FPS.

Although furry is a considerable amount of Japan's video game market, in North America, it seems like furry games are only had by begging and promising to buy, so please show a bit of consideration to a greater end in this matter.
KevinSnowpaw
12 years, 8 months ago
there is no greater end. Okami Kamiden and Legend of kay (which sucked) are not "furry" games. there are no "furry" games tey were not created with the fanbase in mind we can make no claim to them. I dont give two flying figgs about the aforementioned games. Capcom is shitting all over one of my favorite franchises and whats more this isent the first time they have done it. Im tired of Resident Evil and it's ilk. I don't care how many successful titles they have released.

the point bhind this journal is they got everybody's hopes up, promised us a game we all wanted more then any other IP they own and then they cancelled it for no definable reason.  Im not going to support this company any longer, every time they do this I have even less reason to do so. this journal is here to get the word out and let others deside to make the same choice if they so desire.
PeachClover

Since our definitions don't match, please define "furry" and "furry games".
KevinSnowpaw
12 years, 8 months ago
Im really not in the mood for this X3 Ok look at it this way, you wouldn't call any sci-fi film with teleporters star trek. Just because something features Animals with human features or characteristics does not make it furry or a furry game. These ideas and concepts existed long before there was a fanbase surrounding anthropomorphic creatures. ere go unless the game, movie, tv show. manga, doujin or graphic novel was designed with Our fanbase in mind as a target audience it's not technically furry now is it? we don't own anthropomorphic.

Your previous statement about a greater end to the matter assumes that boy wishing to boycot capcom It would some how be hurting the fanbase by ending games targeting said fanbase. It in fact does not. X3

Crapcom and the vast majority of japanese game makers have been extremely desapointing during the current gen of consoles. The trend goes on with this.
