What kind of hypnotic eyes look best?

I have a whole bunch of hypnosis commissions coming up... do I pick blank eyes, glowing eyes, @_@ look or just remove the eye highlights and all expression ala Rei Ayanami or Yuki Nagato...

Your thoughts!

For me the highlight-less works best, but that's just me

Agreed.

Depends on how serious you want it to look.  If you're looking for silly, I'd say swirly spiral eyes.  If you're looking for serious, I'd say they blank expression like Rei Ayanami.  Glowing eyes I'd say is an indication of demonic possession, or a release of inner power, not hypnosis.

Ahhh. Good point. But not with magic involved, perhaps.

Well, Magical hypnotism can = glowing eyes, I suppose

Someone said in the movie, the pokemon controlled by Mewtwo, the eyes glowed blue.

Sadly, client is not paying for color on this one. =(

Yeah, and it's hard to convey glowing in grayscale.

It all depends on the types of characters you're using, and the style it's in. I prefer the blank pupil-less eyes, but that usually means unconscious, not hypnotized. You might want to go with eyes with pupils, but no highlights. Doing it right without making them look shocked or scared can be hard sometimes though.
 Hope I helped.

Depends....are the eyes belonging to the person doing the hypnosis? If so, then go with swirly eyes. As for the person being hypnotised. Mm. Not really sure.

Noted.

Actually I like the twister look, sort of an inward spinning like a whirlpool.  add two, maybe three colors shifting slightly in hue and it reflects one of the better hypnotic views.  That's really best for the hypothesizer though.  however for the hypnotized person, can you manage a blank/glassy stare.  that's more of the right look for hypnosis.  blank alone isn't fully enough, a glassy tinge would make it perfect.

This will look good on the animated Midna one.

It's not a huge animation, just a simple loop like "It lives!" but I'm putting every body part that could conceivably bend and move on layers anyway. Bad habit I picked up from ZONE. D=

If they are the ones doing the hypnotism, I imagine Pinkie Pie's swirly eyes. ^^

I like the 'dead eye' look from a lot of anime. Dull looking, sometimes missing the pupil. It looks kinda creepy with facial expressions. =3

Haha, yeah! Oh, Lord, someone said "Like Pinkie Pie's swirly eyes during the Zecora song" and now I know what everyone's talking about.

Those ponies, man. Those ponies.

I'm fond of the dead eye look too... The eyes with no pupils, dull and blank...  That's one of the fun things about hypnosis, SO many ways to get the same effect. :3

@_@

For the inducter or inductee?

For the hypo-tiz-eeeeee I think.  I kind of like it when the inductor does the whole 'swirly thing', and then the inductee eyes go wide, and then the swirly begin?

I don't think I've ever but that much thought into that before!  hahahahaha

So far, the best approach I know of is this one:
http://www.hypnochan.org/hyp/src/13044924781.png
It's more about the entire facial expression than just the eyes.
Wade eyes, small-ish iris, neutral expression.
I think the key is to have the eyes wide open with lots of space around the iris.
Also, note the website. It probably has lots of other examples to consider.

Alternatively, you might try using the effect from The Jungle Book, when Kaa the snake puts people into a trance.

Another, more realistic look might be to dilate the pupils, like when your eyes adjust to the dark.
It supposedly happens when a person is drugged too.

I forget, are dilated pupils expanded or contracted?

Dilated means bigger.

If you plan to animate the Kaa effect, try having the rings move away from the center for the person being hypnotized,
and have the rings move toward the center for the person doing the hypnosis.

Blank, dull ones.

I'd say several bands of colors.

Oh, and if it's for the victim, I'd say the blank, tiny pupil eyes.

For the hypnotizee, I would drop the highlights & remove any light reflections from the eyes. This always gives them the glazed over/nobody's home look. Works great at showing a person is not in control of their mind/body & you don't have to waste time explaining. For the hypnotizer, I would show more of the eye with a dilated pupil (gives the illusion of focusing power) & add an effect to the eyes to show they are more than normal.

I prefer the hypno swirls myself, I know it's silly, but I do. <:3
