FAQ you, Grose!

by
WARNING! Some of my statements may seems offensive or rude... they are - I'm not a nice person.

Hi, what's your name?

Hi, I am Grose, sometimes grosechan, sometimes "you douchebag!". If you expected to know my real name - forget it. Not only it will not give you anything, it has nothing to do with my works - nickname more accurate.

How are you doing?

By hands. Seriously, I'm not a fan of hollow talks, so attempt to drag me in one is meaningless and may be mocked. If you want to talk to me about drawing, to share something new or useful, or I can be of any help - please. Otherwise you're just wasting your time.

You're super cool artist, AWESOME, your work should be published in real galleries ... blah blah blah

Stop. I know that there are many people who love this kinds of word and before asking something - of course always better to be on persons good side... But I'm not one of them. The first thing that I appreciate is the truth - anything, but the truth. And since I am well aware of my art retardness, I never believe such words. I appreciate, if you really think so, but you are more likely to get my sympathy by calling me "screw-handed asshole") And now to business ...

Do you take commissions?

From recent events - yes. I'm still believe that my skills are lackluster, but even untalented hacks should eat from time to time. Right now I don't have a set commision politic, so it will be more individual till I sort things out. Basic guidelines you can see in requests guidelines below. Exept if you don't follow them, but ask about commision - it's a matter of price.

Do you take requests?

Yes, but i have strict rules about them, which i rarely ignore.

How to declare a request?

Use PM or any other way to contact me (though i don't recomend smoke signals or channeling, this methods worked only twice before). Don't send me "can I make request?" or "I'd like to make request", without actually making it. Go straight to business, be confident - you want something and you think I can help with it. Also, it is desirable to more fully describe what you want to see. If I accept your request, I will answer you, if not - I'll probably too, but make no promises.

What can be asked as request?

This is most important. I take requests that help me grow, something I never did. This may be a pose, composition, style - anything. Theme of pickture must be creative/original/challenging/new for me or all together. If you have just an interesting, amusing or funny idea, please, I may also take it=) There is no certain criteria, just suggest and I give answer. I have no moral or taste preferences(as artist), so I'll drew anything, as long as it folows my rules.

How much time it will take?

Everything depends on the complexity or my free time:
If you want full color from me (why?) it could take a lot of time (side projects and all);
just inked - still will try your patience;
sketches i do more quickly.
And of course the motivation, so do not expect that the constant reminders about your request going to help.

What happens to the finished drawing?

Customer recieve whole rights on all non-commercial uses of any image, idea, concept, setting, design and other shit(personal opinion) i produce for him. That's mean - picture can be posted anywhere customer will desire (making reference to me, you don't want people to think that's you such shitty drawer); printed and pinned to the wall(some people still do that); maked into a T-shirt or a mug(some people actually do this)... In short, anything until it's free. I guarantee full anonimity. unless told otherwise - nobody will get from me anything (name, contacts, request info or picture). If i liked result(very unlikely), I could ask customers permission on posting it as part of my portfolio (though i doubt I show it to anyone ever)

Allright, now if you have any more questions, ask them here. Have a nice day.

Ahh, you need a little pop-up and all it says is "Achievement Earned! You are now KARKAT."

If you don't read HomeStuck, I apologize in advance.

I'm sorry, I was in a hurry yesterday. Allow me to start over, sir.

Homestuck is a nerdy webcomic, occasionally animated, and is very long-running. There are a species known as "trolls" that are pretty much exactly the same as their 4chan equivalents but with candy corn horns and often associated with astrology signs.

Karkat is a guy who genuinely cares on the inside, but he hides it behind an ocean of snark and gruffness. Despite all that, his friends all know he cares so when he goes out of his way to insult them, they say things like "Thanks" or "How you doin' man?" and so forth, causing him to be full of more impotent rage.

People who are not his friends are not so kind.

If it makes you feel any better, the joke was not actually funny and my reference went way over your head because I was distracted like the socially-inept fool I always am.

Also it seems I forgot a question: You ever plan on finishing up/continuing that cream animation you did? It was pretty damned good imo

Wait, what? Did you just pretty much say your art is bad? I apologize for this, and you may feel free to insult and/or hate me to your heart's content. After seeing what you submitted for Aval0nX, I must completely dissagree with you on that.

Well, internet is free space, you can say anything you want. That's why I like it here =3

It's my opinion that the quality of an artist's work and the quality they perceive it to be are inversely proportionate. Has something to do with practice and an innate honesty/self punishment idk. But you just kinda made my point.
Don't be a puss. Get a paypal account and accept some commissions. If you don't like it stop. But every artist eventually has to learn that the public's opinion isn't going to line up with their's and that figuring out how to let the bs slide off and use the good parts of what people say is as much a part of becoming better as being able to take an critic's axe to your own stuff.

It's nice to know that you're very humble and hilarious, lol. And, in all honesty, No, you're not the best artist of all time.. BUT, you have a serious amount of talent and should give yourself some more credit.

i second the above comment. you may not be the best, but trust me on this, i have ran across some people who can't draw worth a piss, but want people to pay bucket-loads for a quick sketch. not the best, but, you are a very far cry for even the mediocre talent i have seen

Yea, I don't feel right paying people for my artwork. Usually if I'm doing a website or something then I finish the site and negotiate a price that is worth the effort and the level of quality. I have been told that I underestimate myself but I'm really critical of my own work. Some people have way too much pride in their work and can't bring themselves to see how awful it really is. Motto of the story, real artists work on donations; if the art is good then you will get more, if you get none then you know you suck lol.

true, then there is also that age old saying "you are your own worst critic"...
