Ugh...

by
And FurAffinity is still down. I mean, shit happens and all and I know they're trying to get it back online but uh... I have a lot of commissions just sort of sitting here with NOTHING getting done on them because I need to send the sketches off for approval first before I waste any time on inking and coloring something that a commissioner might want changed.

This sucks mostly because I'm kind of depending on commissions to pay bills (y halo there $600 worth of student loans!), Christmas presents and convention artist alley fees. Not to mention my job refuses to give anyone anywhere close to full-time hours and more often than not ends up calling me off when corporate tells them to shaft the employees that they already keep on slave wages as it is.

So please, FA, come back online soon. Some of us depend on your PM system to get shit done.

Hopefully this big shift they're doing in the meantime hardware-wise will mean there won't be any problems like this occurring again in the near future. Although looking at the history of the site, I wouldn't really bet on it.

"Near future" FA definition: 6 months.

Thus the tentative bet.

Yeah, it's a real bother for artists, especially just before Christmas. For want of a few spare hard drives, there's a lot of commerce not happening - or, at least, not happening on FA.

You might reconsider relying on PMs. Email is more private - unless you care about the NSA reading your commissions - and far more reliable. I know, it's easy, and some don't have a usable email account. Still!

(Of course, the email link doesn't work on your commission page. I can figure out what you meant, but I'm not sure everyone would. If you're worried about stuff getting lost in junk mail, you could specify a subject in the mailto: link and filter things with that subject out of your junk folder.)

At this point I'm more concerned with people with no sense of boundaries and other unsavory, stalker-ish characteristics. At least one person continually spammed me with viruses and whatnot, so I prefer to avoid email as much as possible. >.> Some people have to ruin it for everyone.

Owch. That does seem crazy - I've had viruses sent "from" people I know, but not intentionally.

Unless them stalkers are increadably clever, Google Email's "Report as Spam" tends to filter out incomming mail with similar properties, such as similar grammer/spelling.

I know of several people in this position. Hopefully this pushes the commission crowd to a more stable site!

and this is why you post your commissions on IB as well i recommend you try and find some of those folks who commission on IB as well. with FA down this long they might have shown up anyways.

Honestly.  Better set up a skype account as backup.   I have a feeling once FA is up again there are going to be so many people cramming up journals, arts and stories, and pm that it may break or have serious lag issues for a long time.   Skype is one of the better ways just to send a message even images if you need to.

You can always not share any contact details unless they are commissioners.  And if you need to you can remove contacts as well.    Just a thought you could use at least as a backup.
