Next month marks the 40th anniversary of the death of the great Walt Kelly, and I thought I'd write up a little tribute to him. Whether you're a huge fan, or you've never even heard of him, I suggest you give it a quick look:
It made me kind of sad at Anthrocon 2007 when Carolyn Kelly (Walt's daughter) was the guest of honor. Her table was almost always empty. I went up and introduced myself and said, "You know what? Walt Kelly was my hero growing up." Her response? "Me, too." I almost tear up thinking about that.

I had that exact same feeling meeting Frank Kelly Freas at an SDCC one year. He was sitting with his new wife/companion and no one was stopping at his table at all. I stopped and talked to him for a bit and he was a really nice guy. He was always one of THE BEST artists of ANYthing there was and I was soo happy I got to meet him before he died.
