This week's race may have some hitches..

When trying to do the qualifying for this week's race at E4 (a fictional track set in northern Finland), I ran into a bit of an issue... The qualifying session doesn't last long enough. Only about six to eight cars can qualify before the session ends, and the other drivers are placed in random positions.

The only solution I can think of is to take times from a long practice session and use the top 42 from that. The only problem with that is, all the starting positions will end up being provisionals, and therefore meaningless. What are your thoughts on it?

Are the drivers that don't get to 'finish' getting believable times?   Could you make the qualifying groups smaller?  Or maybe use an official track that is about the same size I suppose.

Well, the problem is, the way it's simulated, it's like most of the drivers don't even get to try within the time limit. The qualifying session length is determined by the length of the track, and number of qualifying laps. Sadly, there are no NASCAR tracks as long as E4. The longest NASCAR sanctioned track is Talladega, which is 2.66 miles long. The longest road course is Watkins Glen at 2.454 miles long. E4 is 3.3 miles long. The simulator is giving a qualifying session limit of just seven minutes, so the simulator is likely doing 2-3 AI drivers at a time. I've tried setting the qualifying laps higher, which DOES extend the qualifying session time limit, but it still runs just those set number of AI drivers within the limit. As for breaking them into smaller groups, that'd work only for deciding who races, but wouldn't help with the race start positions.

UPDATE: It's not the session time. There's a glitch in the qualifying AI, and I don't know how to fix it.

If I understand this correctly...Ether run a longer qualifying event, or let the existing lineup stand.

I take it there's no way to manually adjust the qualifying time?

I can tell it the track is longer than it is, which extends the qualifying session time, but it still doesn't work. Turns out the time limit isn't the issue. There's something buggy with the AI on that one track, and I don't know what to do to fix it. I tried tweaking several of the code lines dealing with qualifying, but it still only lets between two and nine people qualify...
