Alright, so, my cat loves boxes. She likes to sleep on them, particularly if it's one I need. The other day I got some foods from Sams Club, and one of the things I got was a box of hot-fry chips. THE MOMENT I set the box down after bringing it home, she ran right over, and relaxed on top of the box. It was big enough for her to sleep on top of, and that's all she wanted.
For the next few days, any time I wanted to grab a bag of hot fries out of the box, she would be sleeping on it, so I'd think, "Meh, I'll just get one later. No need to wake her up." One day, I was craving a bag, and she wasn't on it this time, so I grabbed a sack, opened the box, and stuffed all the bags inside, and let her have the empty box, and she slept inside it for a bit.
Apparently since I don't need the box anymore, it's no longer interesting, so now she's chosen a new box. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/80990655/kittybox.jpg So it's only big enough for half her body at most, but maybe she thinks I need that one now more than the other, or maybe it's only a good idea if it's HER idea.
As far as I can tell, your cat is lacking a lot of the features that mark a large domestic feline as a Maine Coon, most notably the fluffy coat that looks more rugged: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maine_Coon
That being said... her particular box fetish reminds me of my favorite, yet now 4 years dead, cat we called Sophie.
Sophie was the kind of cat that loved to explore, and hunt. Hell, at one point, she was even better at climbing trees than any squirrel we saw. And it wasn't just boxes she would crawl into: she also crawled into plastic bags and paper sacks, the former of which she loved to be carried around in.
...fuck, I miss that cat... :(

I dunno, I saw a video of a Maine Coon on Animal Planet once that looks JUST like Natalie, and the water fascination seemed to fit perfectly. Oh and she also loves paper sacks. I once picked her up in one and started swinging it lightly back and forth, and she started purring ^_^

We had a cat that breed. Also loved boxes. Mom cleaned out her jewelery box once, a drawer was on the bed, bout two inches square, and that cat spent fifteen minutes trying to fit inside it before she just laid on it X3

Our cat seems to be an oddity when it comes to boxes. He likes rubbing his cheeks against the corners of them, especially the flaps, but he won't climb inside them at all.
He does love his laundry basket bed, though. One day he climbed on top of some freshly-dried towels, and just sort of claimed that laundry basket as his. We did take most of the towels out and put a blanket in there for him, though.
