"The Fox" - Update!

by
I mentioned a week ago about this new rather furry video from Norwegian TV-host brothers "Ylvis", titled "The Fox"... Well, since then, the video's gone viral, and what's more... The song debuted on the Billboard Top-40 charts here in the US at #29!

This is indeed the sort of thing us furries would do... ;)

Yep.   Only now were gonna be seeing this for years...   Already know a few foxes that seemed upset by the constant poking. And seem some artwork to match  :P

Eh, it'll soon be forgotten, as soon as the next viral video comes along... ("Call Me Maybe", anyone? It got overshadowed by "Gangnam Style"...)

Actually the one that's been jammed in my head is Gaga's  Applause and the Kia soul commercial with the hamsters which had me laughing my ass off at the end.

There have been several of the Kia hamster ads... :)

Ah but I said the recent with Lady Gaga's song.

For better or worse, having 22 million views on Youtube and debuting at #29 on the US charts is not the sort of thing furries do. I would be shocked if Ylvis were furry. I'd be mildly surprised if they'd ever heard of it before putting this video together.
Anyway, the thing has about run it's course. Here's one that could use some views. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hB8mgVoqY7A

First off, "The Fox" has only been out for 10 days (debuted on TV Norge's YouTube channel Sept. 3, cinch it was intended to be a promo for the Ylvisander brothers' talkshow, there), and I was referring to the video itself being something furries would do (and most likely wouldn't get noticed outside furry circles)...

Secondly, the video you linked... Seriously?? Many of us have been trying for many years to get past this stereotype for years! The negative image that this portrays of fursuiters (not even close to the average being made by fursuiters today) cost us the likes of ConFurence...

Ah, well, I misunderstood you. As for the one I linked, the stereotypical behavior is what makes it funny IMHO.

So I became interested in why ConFurence ended. Not quite as simple as image problems.
http://web.archive.org/web/20070105093456/http://www.p... I also looked up the "Burned Furs", who sound like they were a barrel of laughs. Jesus. As a non-con-goer, I was only peripherally aware of this stuff at the time. It seems like there was an internecine war going on within the fandom.

Also just a thought, you do realize the lyrics are 'are you on Crack, what's up with that?'

Not saying the song doesn't sound cool but I would have expected something like this....  well years ago.

Thank you for bringing up the other thing that bothered me about this video- The song is about the use of drugs and/or saying the person referred to is so looney that the person must be on drugs. This again reinforces the stereotype that we, as furries, are crazy freaks. I would much prefer Ylvis's "The Fox", which is just a fun, silly song, than....that.

I admit the lyric is a bit dated, I can only surmise that it's use is supposed to be ironic. Then again, it's a phrase I've used myself and not long ago. Perhaps I'm a bit dated. XD

I do find it funny that this video pushes so many buttons. It got a fairly positive reception on r/furry, but older furs like d.m.f. worry about the image it portrays and the lyrics referencing drugs. Frankly, sex and drugs are quite popular within furry in my experience. (Not so much crack, obviously.) Guess what? Sex and drugs are also quite popular in the "mainstream".
I worry about the image of furry when furs do truly appalling shit like sexually abuse animals. When that shit hits the news, it hurts all of us. Other than that, my policy is "We really don't tell people 'bout it what really don't know 'bout it." Newsflash: Furry is NEVER going to be "mainstream". Furry is NEVER going to be "normal". And I'm glad.

I'd be really surprised if Ylvis manages to crack the US top 10.

My mind will be blown if it does. :D

Hey, "Gangnam Style" got as high as #2, so yeah. ;)

*nod* And for a download-only single (the only legit physical CD single was a German pressing- I have it... Not even a Korean CD single!), that's pretty darn good. :)

I'm still pissed it didn't go to #1 on the Hot 100 here.

*nodnod* Although sometimes, a #2 sells better than the #1 (time spent on charts, overall sales)... But had they actually put out a CD single for sale (in the US, only a promo single, with a few remixes, none of which appear on any retail CD), it probably would've gone #1, since they would've counted both sales together.

It did break a LOT of records, and was #1 in many countries worldwide. :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gangnam_Style#Records_att...

Yes, I know. :)

And the one country notorious for not marketing the song? Japan.

Let's see... a-ha kinda disappeared after either doing the theme for the Bond movie "The Living Daylights" or covering the Everlys' "Crying in the Rain"... Not sure which...

Hard to believe "The Living Daylights" only got to #113 in the US... Probably the worst showing for a Bond theme, ever... :P And "Crying in the Rain" didn't even chart, though I actually have a promo CD single for it... o.o
